This is the story about Coalie, the poor little horse who just wanted a CHANCE
to be normal ... and loved

I'm new to farm living and have been a city girl all my life. I had yet to reascue any large breed animals until one
fateful day when I was told about a horse who had feet so sore he couldn't even stand.

Armed with my husband - some carrots a digital camera and my cell phone I set off on a journey I would
NEVER forget.

Coalie the first time I saw him

This is what i saw when I arrived -- it was so sad I had tears in my eyes while opening the gate to get in with him. (More pictures below)

This horse didn't want to get up and by looking at his poor feet I could see why. He wasn't interested in eating any food what so ever and only lifted his head long enough to sigh and put it back down again.

It took 5 minutes on the cell phone to reach someone who thought she might be able to help. Problem was we had to get him out of there by the following night before the snowstorm hit.

Contacting the owner ...

It took all night but I was finally able to contact the owner who would take no less than 800 dollars for Coalie. She told me if I didn't take him she'd shoot him. Not having the 800 dollars I offered to trade my computer for him to which she agreed. I then made some calls to see what it would take to get this horse healthy again. Sadly ... it was an expense I wouldn't be able to afford. Luckily ... I have friends in HIGH places and an Angel in disguise stepped in to help. :)

Angels in disguise ...

The next night we met our ANGELS from Grateful Acres Animal Sanctuary with horse trailer in tow to round Coalie up and get him to a place he would not only get the vet care he needed to survive but the LOVE he craved.

It wasn't easy getting him loaded - it hurt him so badly to walk but we got him in and Shannon took him home. The next day he received a good trimming of his hooves (which had puss running out of all of them) and some much needed pain medication.

Coalie - who is now Job ( pronounced Jobe ) has a long way to go as he is at least 300 pounds under weight and his feet are going to be sore for many months. He'll need them trimmed every 3 weeks but we're all praying that he gets the break he needs and will one day run through the fields like a normal horse .. enjoying the lazy horse life they all deserve.

He's only about 2 yrs old so he's spent over half of his life in pain. Here's hoping the next THIRTY YEARS of his life are footloose and fancy free!

GOOD luck Jobe !

Grateful Acres is an Animal Sanctuary for farm animals. It's a wonderful place run by a WONDERFUL person who can only be described as an Angel.

Thank you Shannon. :)

UPDATE ... new pictures of Coalie HERE

Please vistit Grateful Acres if you have an extra minute

Sore feet

His hooves are curled right around and form a point. Looks like he hasn't had his hooves trimmed in YEARS!

Worst of the feet

This foot is so bad you can see the flesh being pinched through the opening of the hoof.
